As View Askew fans will undoubtedly be aware, our lord and saviour Kevin Smith announced last week that he was working on a Jay and Silent Bob sequel, 16 years after the original film graced screens everywhere.
Whilst Mr Smith explains the details better than I ever could (seriously, go read it in full) the basic premise is that Clerks III is no longer happening. To make up for this unfortunate reality, Kevin is returning to the Jay and Silent Bob franchise with a true follow-up to the 2001 flick. Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is touted as a “silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business’s recent re-do obsession”. An all star cast is set to return, with plenty of new faces no doubt.
Excellent, right? Absolutely! But I did have a question. If this is meant to be a replacement of sorts for Clerks III, which was originally penned as the finale of the Clerks story, what time period to these events take place?
So I did what any self-respecting fan would do; I asked the man himself.
@ThatKevinSmith Just had a thought. When is Jay & Silent Bob Reboot "set" in relation to the rest of the View Askewniverse? Current day?

Kevin’s response? Well, as you can see he “liked” my tweet and nothing more. Perhaps not a full response, but I take that as a semi-confirmation that Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is taking place in the present.
Now the real question: “Is this the last time we’ll see the dynamic due?” Perhaps I’d rather not know, but I live in hope we’ll get a true send off for my favourite characters in cinema.
